Markus has long been a member of the Spysong Network in Damara and lives deep in the Dunwood outside of the village of Nenlast at the northern limits of the Nentir Vale. He lives with his daughter, Cygnet, a young and “spirited” girl with obvious “yearnings” for something more.
The party first made contact with Markus when Lady Allande Markelhay asked them to carry a warning to him when an overheard conversation indicated that Spysong members were in danger. The party then joined Markus in chasing down an orcish raiding party that was loyal to the hill giant Battlechief, Nosnra.
